Best of Patagonia – Chilean Brown Trout

Best of Patagonia – Brown Trout Paradise in Chile

There are a handful of Patagonia fishing programs that are centered around Brown Trout. In Chile, the best we’ve seen is at Estancia del Zorro and Cinco Rios Lodge.

Their Brown Trout focused 7-day package is called “Best of Patagonia” and combines both lodges and showcases some of the finest, most varied Brown Trout waters in Chilean Patagonia. Both ranches contain so much private water, big and small, that one could not fish it all in 3 weeks. While there are some hefty Rainbow Trout around, Brown definitely make the bulk of the catch and dry flies like big black beetles and hoppers are key.

Anglers start from the quaint town of Coyhaique, spending 4 nights at Cinco Rios Lodge located on the banks of Rio Simpson. They spend 3 full days accessing clear turquois trout waters such as the Mañihuales, Paloma, Aysen and Azul.  At Cinco Rios, one may also fish several smaller streams and private spring creeks.

On day 5, quests will be transferred 45 mins to Estancia del Zorro to spend 3 nights and 3 full days wading countless private streams and a 15-mile spring creek all within the estancia’s 15,000 private acres.  The standard program has two full days floating large rivers using both jet and drift boats, but really the fishing options are practically endless. There are so many trout waters within their private property that some were scouted for the first time this 2023 season.

This is a truly unique opportunity to be immersed in a variety of stunning scenery, fish incredible trout waters of all kinds with top notch professional guides and enjoy warm Chilean hospitality at two refined lodges.

Space is extremely limited! Those who book early will get some of the last open 2024 rods, while those who wait will probably need to look at 2025.
