La Villa de EMB Report
Feb 4 – 11, 2023     Week 5

Another  week just ended, very nice group, almost all of them repeat, some came back after a few years with out coming, so it’s very nice to meet then again. The fishing was good, we got most of the fish with sinking lines, using nymph tied on circle hooks (dead drifting), and very long leaders. We got same with. Intermediate and floating lines, most with green machine .The river rose one day, it continued to be clear, and the next day the level dropped again. The lower a middle part of the river is full of fish, below Menéndez river, the upper part of the river is really low , there are not many fish .78 fish were landed, 25  fish over 15 pounds, 5 over 20. Red tail nymph  was the best, using  sinking  lines. Top rod of the week was Chris ward with 22 fish on the net, the biggest  16 pounds. David saunders landed the biggest fish with 23 pounds.

Water color and visibility: clear .
Water temperature: 7c  to 14c  .
Water level: low water.

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: strong winds blow from the northwest most of the time.
Air temperature ranges through the week : 6c to 19c.
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): pleasant weather.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray shadow) Small nymph( size 10 to 14)   were the best flies in the week, using them  with all kinds of lines, but more effective this last week with sinking lines ,dead drifting, moving the fly and stripping, all depending the depth and speed of the pools. Using nymph tied on circle hooks(red tail), square cast, dead drif, it was the most effective way , with very long leaders and striping very slow at the end of the drift. Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders ( clear intermediate the best). Length and strength of tippet and leaders:7  to 12  feet. 15 to 20 pounds. Most of the fish were in the lower  And middle part of the river.

Feb 11-18, 2023     Week 6

Ending week 6, fishing was good, several very cold days, they did hard fishing these days, Thursday and Friday the temperature raid and  fishing got much better. Floating lines was very good this week, using green machine, small salmon flies, sunray shadow. The lower a middle part of the river, below Menéndez river is full of fish, the upper part of  the river is really low , most of the pools don’t have drift and there are not many fish,  .94  fish were landed, 17  fish over 15 pounds, 1 over 20. Red tail nymph and emb   were the best flies, using  with sinking  lines. Top rod of the week was David victor  with 27 fish on the net, the biggest  17 pounds. Jonathan hey landed the biggest fish with 22 pounds.

Water temperature: 6c.  to 12c  .
Water level: low water.

Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): cold week.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray shadow). We recommend having at least two rods, one with scandi to use with polyleaders, and the other one with skagit to use sink tips. Also could be good a single rod to use in the upper part of the river. Feb 18-25, 2023     Week 7

A new week of February ends at la villa, fishing was good,great group, all repeating guest. Maybe next week it will be better since the river raised its level a bit. The river rose on Wednesday and on Friday again, actually Menéndez river rose, so the upper part of rio grande didn’t rose, still low and clear. Most of the fishing we did with sinking lines, before river raise with small nymph, and after with big flies. In both cases dead drifting.casting short line square. The lower a middle part of the river is full of fish, the upper part of  the river didn’t raise and is really low  .71  fish were landed, 20  fish over 15 pounds, 3 over 20. Red tail nymph and emb were the best flies, using  with sinking  lines. After Wednesday, intruders were the best. Top rod of the week was Michael graham  with 18 fish on the net, the biggest  18 pounds. Craig stemmer landed the biggest fish with 22 pounds.

La Villa de EMB Report
Feb 25 – Mar 4, 2023     Week 8

First week of march just ends at la villa, fishing was good even with difficult conditions, we start the week on Saturday morning fishing with Michael and Thomas who were staying two weeks, hoocking 9 fish and landing 7.  The river rose on Tuesday, get high and dirty, also we have really cold weather, and very strong winds. Most of the fishing we did with sinking lines, sinking skagit and heavy tips( T17,t20), and using big flies( intruder, tubes, leech).  The lower a middle part of the river is high and dirty, the upper part is low  .71  fish were landed, 19 fish over 15 pounds, none over 20. Big intruders were the best flies of the week. Top rod of the week was Michael graham  with 22 fish on the net, plus 5 on Saturday morning, the biggest  19 pounds. Michael graham  landed the biggest fish with 19 pounds.

Water color and visibility: dirty .
Water temperature: 6c.  to 13c  .
Water level:the lower part is high, the upper part still low..

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: strong winds blow from the northwest most of the time.
Air temperature ranges through the week : -2c  to 13c.
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): cold week.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray shadow). Sinking lines was the best, using sinking skagit with heavy sink tips, with intruders. We recommend having at least two rods, one with scandi to use with polyleaders, and the other one with skagit to use sink tips. Also could be good a single rod to use in the upper part of the river.
