La Villa de EMB Lodge
Jan 7-14, 2023    Week 1

First week of 2023 in  la villa, great group of Islandic fisherman’s ,really good anglers .The fishing was difficult , we saw many fish but they didn’t take the flies.
The water temperature was very hot many times in the week, same days the winds blow is from the east and the fish just entering and taking their positions, going through in the pools, they made fishing difficult, 67 fish were landed, 5 fish over 15 pounds, none over 20, Average weight  6 pounds.
Small salmon flies were the best, using with floating lines.
Top rod of the week were orn sigurhansson and johann birgisson with 13 fish on the net, the biggest 19 pounds.
Orn sigurhansson landed the biggest fish with 19 pounds.

Water Conditions
Water color and visibility: clear .
Water temperature: 8c  to 17c.
Water Level:  Low

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: strong winds blow from the northwest most of the time.
Air temperature ranges through the week : 7c  to 20c.
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): dry season.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb) intruder, leeches ( for the last hour).
Dead drift small salmon flies with floating lines was the most effective.
Floating lines with sunray shadows were very good.
Striping same nymph or wet flies with sinking tips in deeper pools .
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders .
Length and strength of tippet and leaders:7  to 12  feet. 15 to 20 pounds.
Most of the fish were in the lower  And midle part of the river.
All the fish were fresh.

Number of anglers for the week: 6.
Total number of fish landed for the week: 67.
Weight of the biggest fish landed for the week: 19 pounds .
Number of fish landed over 15 pounds: 5.
Number of fish landed over 20 pounds: 0.
Average weight: 6  pounds.
Notable catches:19 pounds fresh fish toke a size 14 salmon flies on top .

Jan 14-21, 2023   Week 2

Another week in  la villa, 4 returning guest and 2 new ones, formed a good group with a good atmosphere in the lodge.
The fishing improved, but we continue to see many fish and not so many taken.only last hour of the day they really active, taking big flies ( sunray shadow, leech, intruder).
The fishing was improving during the week, so we expect Much  better fishing next week , 78 fish were landed, 15  fish over 15 pounds.
Green machine and emb  were the best, using with floating and sinking  lines.
Top rod of the week was Sasha savic with 17 fish on the net, the biggest  17 pounds.
Michael Moran  landed the biggest fish with 19 pounds.

Water temperature: 6c  to 14c  .
Water level: low water.

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: strong winds blow from the northwest most of the time.
Air temperature ranges through the week : 6c  to 20c.
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): very pleasant weather.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are workin the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray shadow). Emb and green machine were the best flies in the week, using them  with all kinds of lines, dead drifting, moving the fly and stripping, all depending the depth and speed of the pools.. Intermediate lines with sunray shadows, green machine, emb and salmon flies were very good. Striping same nymph or wet flies with sinking tips in deeper pools . Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders.  Length and strength of tippet and leaders:7  to 12  feet. 15 to 20 pounds. Most of the fish were in the lower  And midle part of the river. All the fish were fresh.

Jan 21-28, 2023     Week 3

Week 3 just finished, very good group with 3 repeat guest and 3 new ones. The fishing was difficult, we didn’t get many fish with floating and intermediate lines, we got most of the fish with sinking lines, using nymph, green machine. The last hour when the Sun was going down was best fishing time , using leeches and big tubes , 58 fish were landed, 17 fish over 15 pounds, 1 over 20. Green machine was the best, using with intermediate and sinking lines. Top rod of the week was Keith Cartwright with 15 fish on the net, the biggest 17 pounds. Collin goh landed the biggest fish with 20 pounds.

Wind speed ranges through the week: strong winds blow from the northwest most of the time. Air temperature ranges through the week : 5c to 18c. Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): a day with strong winds from the east.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray shadow) Small nymph( size 10 to 14) green machine were the best flies in the week, using them with all kinds of lines, but more effective this last week with sinking lines ,dead drifting, moving the fly and stripping, all depending the depth and speed of the pools. Stripping tubesflies with sinking lines worked good. Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders ( clear intermediate the best). Length and strength of tippet and leaders:7 to 12 feet. 15 to 20 pounds. Most of the fish were in the lower And middle part of the river. All the fish were fresh.

Notable catches: nice fish with nymph size 14.

Jan 28- Feb 6, 2023     Week 4

Very good week just ended, great group 5 repeaters, and 1 new one. The fishing was good, we didn’t get many fish with floating and intermediate lines, we got most of the fish with sinking lines, using nymph tied on circle hooks (dead drifting), and very long leaders. The lower a middle part of the river is full of fish, below Menéndez river, the upper part of the river is really low, there are not many fish .100 fish were landed, 25  fish over 15 pounds, 3 over 20. Red tail nymph was the best, using sinking  lines. Top rod of the week was Paul Richardson with 19 fish on the net, the biggest 18 pounds. Richard Miller landed the biggest fish with 21 pounds.

Water temperature: 7  to 14c  .
Water level: low water.

Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: strong winds blow from the northwest most of the time.
Air temperature ranges through the week : 4 c to 25 c.
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): a really warm day temperature reached  25 c.

Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: Different sizes of sunray shadows, small salmon  flies, nymph ( red tail, emb, prince, pheasant tail), green machine , for the last hour (intruder, leech, sunray shadow). Small nymph( size 10 to 14)   were the best flies in the week, using them  with all kinds of lines, but more effective this last week with sinking lines ,dead drifting, moving the fly and stripping, all depending the depth and speed of the pools. Using nymph tied on circle hooks (red tail), square cast, dead drif, it was the most effective way.
Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11, scandi with polyleaders ( clear intermediate the best).
Length and strength of tippet and leaders:7  to 12  feet. 15 to 20 pounds. Most of the fish were in the lower  And middle part of the river. All the fish were fresh.

Number of fish landed over 15 pounds: 25.

Average weight: 9,5 pounds.
Notable catches: 5 fish in a row with a small circular hook nymph.
