Week 3
Another week just ended, fishing was very good, the Rio Grande still with great level of water , on Wednesday the river went up and got dirty, in dirty water fishing was very good using big flies or 2 tubes in tandem.
Johann birgits was top rod of the week with 24 fish landed. Gunar norddahl got the biggest fish 22 pounds.
Floating lines and slow sinking and salmon flies size 10 and 12 were the best. We got many offers on top, using salmon flies, green machine, sunray shadows.
Water Conditions
Water color and visibility: Very clear water until Thursday, there got dirty below Ona River, upper part was very clean all week. Water temperature: 9 c to 14 c. Water level: great level below Menéndez River, upper part has good level but much lower…
Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week: the wind blows northwest, it wasn’t strong all week, only Friday afternoon got really strong. Air temperature ranges through the week: 4 c to 16 c , we had some rains.
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.): 2 very cold days.
Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: in clean water we were using salmon flies and tubeflies, in dirty water we were using, intruders, leeches and 2 tubes in tandem. Big flies for the last hour: big tube flies. After the lower part rose, the fishing got much better in dirty water than clear water. Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11. Floating lines were the best. Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 7 to 14 feet. 12 to 20 pounds. Dead drifting salmon and tubes flies was the best technique. Some times striping slow. Most of the fish were in the lower and middle part of the river, upper part is not so good.
All fish were fresh.
