Rio Grande Fishing Report
January 18-25, 2020
Slow week fishing the Rio Grande but river is in great condition. The fish didn’t take much, river still with great level of water. 78 fish were landed, 15 fish over 15 pounds, 2 over 20, Average weight 9,5 pounds.
Roger young was top rod of the week with 18 fish landed.
Keith cartwright got the biggest fish 20 pounds.
Sinking lines and were the best.
Water Conditions
Water color and visibility: Very clear water all week.
Water temperature: 9 c to 14 c.
Water level: great level below Menéndez river, upper part start getting low.
Weather Conditions
Wind speed ranges through the week:the wind blows northwest ,it wasn’t strong all week.
Air temperature ranges through the week: 7 c to 18 c .
Weather observations (sun, rain, fog, etc.):cold afternoons.
Fishing Conditions
Flies that are working the best: emb, green machine, sunray shadow. Big flies for the last hour: big tube flies, leeches. Fly lines (tips, heads, lengths, densities, etc) that are producing the best: Skagit heads with different lengths of T-17,14, 11.
Floating and intermiate lines were very good.
Length and strength of tippet and leaders: 7 to 14 feet. 12 to 20 pounds.
Dead drifting emb and green machine was very good, stripping sunray shadow work good also. Most of the fish were in the lower and middle part of the river, upper part is getting better.
