Maria Behety Fishing Report Jan 25 – Feb 1, 2014

This was an excellent week at Estancia María Behety Lodge!

Average weight of sea-trout landed was 9.7 pounds. 35 fish were over 15 pounds and 9 over 20 pounds. The biggest were a few 22 pounders.

Top Rods:
Robert Downs: 38 fish landed!! 7 over 15 pounds and 1 over 20.
Helmut Zaderer: 34 fish landed!! 3 over 15 pounds.
John Downs: 32 fish landed!! 4 over 15 pounds and 1 over 20
Duane Dotts landed 3 fish over 20 pounds!!!

Notable Catches:
Robert Downs landed a 20 pounder.
John Downs landed a 20.5 pounder.
Helmut Alleze landed a 22 pounder.
Duane Dotts landed a 20 pounder and two 20.5 pounders.
Ron Ainsworth landed a 22 pounder.
Mike Roberts landed a 21 pounder and a 22 pounder.
River conditions: River is in excellent condition. Low and clear water. Water temperature between 45° F and 55° F.

Weather: Air temperature between 37° F and 60° F. This week we had some very windy days. Wind speed went up to 45 miles per hour. We had some showers during the week.

Lines: Skagit shooting heads with 10´, 12´and 15´ of T-14 and T-17 and 10´of T-11. Scandi lines and polyleaders or versyleaders work very good when we want to fish close to the surface. Monofilament or fluorocarbon 0X to 03X diameter tippets.

Flies: Nymhps were the flies of the week. Red tail, EMB, TDF prince, Aurelia prince and some chartreuse nymps were the best. Also black and olive wooly buggers, yuk bug worked well on windy days. For the last hour of the day big leeches, intruders or tube flies. Titanic and sunray shadows were fished on the surface.
